A monster representing the miscegenated state of the theatre, combining tragedy, comedy, and pantomime. Coloured etching by S. De Wilde, 1807, after "Sylvester Scrutiny".
A hand-coloured etching shows a fantastical monster with several human heads, a harlequin-patterned body, and a shaggy dark hindquarters ending in a serpentine tail, looming over a crowd of small men in period dress. A scroll labelled Shakespeare's Works lies at lower right, and a columned building fills the pale background.
