Salpêtrière hospital, Paris: Philippe Pinel freeing the insane from their chains. Oil painting by T. Robert-Fleury, ca. 1876.
A dim hospital hall holds a group of figures in ragged clothing, some seated on the floor or a bench, others gathered around a man in a dark coat and top hat. A pale-clothed woman with loose dark hair stands at the center, while a seated woman at right turns toward the viewer. The oil painting uses heavy shadow and warm, earthy tones.

La pintura al óleo usa sombras intensas y tonos cálidos y terrosos.
