A crane inserts its beak into the mouth of a wolf; illustrating Aesop's fable. Etching by C. Murer after himself, c. 1600-1614.
A long-legged crane leans forward and thrusts its beak into the open jaws of a seated wolf in a wooded landscape. Behind them a walled town, a river with boats, and small figures on a bridge recede into the distance. The Latin caption GRATIA SUPERIORUM is engraved across the top of the fine black-and-white etching.
