Courtesan seated beside a lattice fence, looking at blank paper

A woman in a richly patterned kimono sits on a wooden bench beside a tall lattice fence, holding a sheet of white paper that she gazes at. The hanging scroll is painted in full color on silk, with a muted ochre ground, a red seal near the lower left, and a decorative brocade border.
