Kitchen Interior with Hallucinatory Beings, Watercolour by Auguste Laurent, 1844
A watercolour of a timber-beamed room with a large hooded fireplace where a fire burns beneath hanging pots and a pan. Strange, grotesque figures with animal and human features populate the scene, including a seated figure at a bench, a cook at the hearth, and a small dog in the foreground.
