A Vignette of Life on the Frontier
A folding fan painted in ink and color on paper shows a man in a blue robe and wide hat raising a long whip toward a black horse that stands in grassland. A gnarled, twisted pine fills the left side, with a grove of trees behind them. The painting is seen on a fan with red lacquered sticks and a carved, gilt-inscribed guard.
Look closer: Red seal stamps appear near the left edge and the right side of the fan, and a line of small inscription characters runs along the lower left.
