Alligator and Turtle at a River, Natural History of America
An engraved plate shows a pale tapir-like animal at left beside a tree, while an alligator and a turtle approach the water's edge in the foreground. A small mammal perches on a branch above, with reeds and distant hills behind. The caption reads 'Part of the Natural History of America' beneath the scene.
