At the Justice of the Peace

A seated man in a dark coat and white cravat writes at a draped table beside a window, while a second man in a long coat sits on a chair nearby, gazing toward him. Tall leaded windows, a wooden chest of drawers and a plank floor fill the bare interior, shown here as a grayscale reproduction.
