Beer straw, Ganda artist, late 19th century

A long, slender beer straw curves against a black background, its shaft wrapped in alternating bands of tan and dark plant fiber. The tapered mouthpiece at the top bends gently, and the lower end is capped with a fine woven section. The object is shown full length, isolated for close viewing of its wrapped texture.
