Engraving of a winged angel descending over a kneeling man, with ghostly faces in the clouds behind.

Clarence's Dream (Shakespeare, Richard III, Act 1, Scene 4)

Clarence's Dream, an etching and engraving after Stothard, shows a winged angel descending on the right while a man kneels in the lower left, gripping his head. Pale faces and figures drift through the shadowed clouds behind them, and the tonal hatching is dense and dramatic.

Look closer: A small face peers out from the cloud just beneath the angel's arm.
