Dark stipple engraving of a lazar house: a pale emaciated figure reaches upward while sick people huddle below a looming winged skeleton.

Death looms above a group of people inflicted with various physical and mental diseases - a lazar house. Stipple engraving by M. Haughton, 1813, after H. Fuseli.

A dark stipple engraving shows a crowded lazar house where ailing figures sprawl, slump and cling to one another beneath a looming winged skeletal figure. A pale, emaciated nude man stretches his arm upward at center, while a seated woman and a bent figure at right gesture in despair.
