Design for a Dish with Portraits of the Roman Emperors Tiberius, Vespa
A circular engraved design shows three laurel-wreathed Roman emperors in profile, Tiberius at top, Vespasian lower left and Titus lower right. A Latin inscription fills the central panel, surrounded by grotesque scrollwork, putti and small animals in dense hatching.
Look closer: Small birds are tucked into the scrollwork of the ornament on the left side.
