Black and white lithograph of a coiled rattlesnake with a raised head at upper left and banded rattle at left, labeled Crotalus confluentus.

Crotalus confluentus, rattlesnake lithograph from 1850s Red River survey

A coiled rattlesnake with a patterned, scaled body rests in several loops, its head raised at the upper left and its rattle segments banded in pale tones at the left. The fine hatched linework and grey shading suggest a mid-19th-century natural history lithograph, with the Latin species label printed along the bottom edge.
