Engraving of a nude Black woman hanging by her wrists from a tree branch while small figures stand in an open landscape.

Flagellation of a Female Samboe Slave

An engraving shows a bound Black woman, nearly nude apart from a cloth at her hips, hanging by her raised wrists from a bare tree branch. Two small figures at right raise their arms, and a third stands at left. The fine stippled lines give the scene an etched, tonal texture.
