Group portrait outside a hut, Karachi plague outbreak, 1897

A large group of men, women and children poses outdoors before a bamboo-and-thatch shelter, the men in turbans and long coats or waistcoats standing behind, a man in a pale suit and pith helmet at centre. Women in light wraps and children crouch or sit on the bare ground in front, in a sepia albumen photograph.
