Madonna and Child with Saints Francis and Dominic and Angels

A Madonna in red and dark blue holds the Christ Child, who reaches toward a kneeling bearded friar in a brown habit at left. At right, a robed Dominican holds a lily and a book, while cherub angels crowd the composition, one lifting a book and another a flowering branch. Dramatic light and warm flesh tones emerge from deep shadow.

Look closer: A small angel's face peers from behind the Dominican's shoulder at the lower right.
