Marble portrait head of the Emperor Constantine I
A marble head of a man with short, closely combed hair, large staring eyes with incised pupils, a broad straight nose, and firm, closed lips. The neck is cut off flat at the base. The polished surface shows warm honey tones and a calm, frontal, formal gaze typical of imperial portraiture.
Look closer: The hair is carved in small, individual strands, and the ears are finely shaped at the sides of the head.
