Miniature Mixtec Wooden Mask with Shell Eye

A damaged carved wooden mask, seen at three-quarter angle on a thin stand against a gray backdrop, shows flaking ochre, gold-toned and black pigment over its worn surface. A large white shell eye with a dark center and a single pale tooth-like piece in the open, broken mouth give the face a stark, rough expression.
