Mortuary Figure of the Zodiac Sign: Monkey (Sagittarius)
A small gray earthenware figure of a seated robed person with a monkey's head, ears rounded and eyes inset. The long, draped garment falls in folds to the base, with patches of orange slip worn across the surface. The hands rest together at the lap, and the figure is shown frontally against a plain gray ground.
Look closer: Small inset eyes and tiny ears on the head give the monkey features a quiet, watchful look.
