Night Rain at the Double-Shelf Stand, from the series Eight Parlor Vie
Two women and a shaved-headed boy occupy a tatami parlor, the seated woman in yellow bowing her head while the standing woman in a patterned kimono looks on. A red double-shelf stand, a lidded iron kettle and a lattice window frame the scene, rendered in fine woodblock lines and soft colors.
Look closer: A small cup sits on the floor near the lower left edge, beside the kneeling figure's sleeve.
