Woodcut of a woman milking a cow, from Ortus sanitatis (1491)

A hand-colored woodcut framed within a printed page shows a woman in a red dress and white headdress seated beside a cow, milking it into a wooden pail. A second pail stands on the grass at lower right under a cloudy sky. The pale, outlined forms and simple green ground suggest a late medieval printed book illustration.
