Watercolor of white violet flowers with yellow centers and deeply lobed green leaves on pale paper.

Pansy Violet (Viola pedata), Watercolor by Mary Vaux Walcott

A cluster of white violet blossoms with yellow-brown centers rises above deeply lobed green leaves on a pale paper ground, with a shaded mound of soil beneath. Loose, delicate watercolor strokes show the slender stems and five-petaled flowers, and a handwritten note in the lower right reads Washington, 5.29.1919.
