Poem by Sanjō-in, from the series One Hundred Poems Explained by the N
Courtiers in layered robes gather on a moonlit veranda beside a sliding-screen room, one figure kneeling within and others seated at the rail. A full moon hangs over the sea beneath a red-and-gold roof, rendered in bold color and fine printed lines.
Look closer: A kneeling figure is partly hidden inside the room behind the sliding screen, easy to overlook beside the bright robes.
