Portrait of Galileo Galilei, engraving after Justus Sustermans

A bearded man with receding gray hair, wearing a white collar and dark fur-trimmed garment, turns his head toward the viewer in a dark-toned engraved portrait. Printed text beneath the oval-framed bust names Galileo Galilei and carries a dedication with a coat of arms. The fine cross-hatched lines give the face and fabric a soft, textured finish.
