Praying Mantis on a Lychee
A praying mantis rests on a branch at right while ripe, elongated yellow and red fruit hang from leafy stems. Red blossoms and brown-green leaves fill the left side of this color woodblock print, with Chinese calligraphy at upper right.
Look closer: The praying mantis, camouflaged in pale green and brown, sits on the lower branch and is easy to overlook.
