Scholar's rock

A tall, vertical scholar's rock of black limestone rises from a carved wooden stand with scalloped edges. Its surface is folded, hollowed and pierced with irregular holes, creating sculptural peaks and recesses against a plain grey background.

Look closer: The wooden stand has small carved feet and scalloped edges visible at its lower corners.
