Study for 'Fortune' by Elihu Vedder
A narrow vertical sheet of violet-gray paper shows a study of draped cloth in white chalk, its folds gathered at the top and falling in a long tapering curve toward the bottom. Soft highlights and shading model the fabric, and a pencil inscription in the lower left names the artist and reads 'study drapery for Fortune.'
