The Capture of Carthage
A mounted standard-bearer in red and gold armor rides a white horse at right, raising a golden banner topped with an eagle. In the foreground a nude or half-clad body lies across the ground while soldiers fight amid smoke and a fortified city. The loose, sketched brushwork and warm earth tones suggest a Venetian oil study of conquest.
Look closer: A bundle of spears lies in the lower right corner beside the horse's hooves.
