The Cliffs, Foilhummerum Bay, Valentia, the Point at Which the Shore-e
A watercolor of a steep, grassy cliff falling to a rocky shore, where a crowd of figures in dark and light clothing gathers near the water. Small boats sit in the bay at left, and a column of smoke rises from the headland. Loose washes and touches of gouache give the sunlit hillside a hazy, open feel.
Look closer: A red flag flies on the right slope, and a signature with date appears in the lower right corner.
