The God of War
A seated god of war in a green robe with a long black beard dominates this Chinese woodblock print, flanked by a dark-faced armored attendant at left and a young attendant at right. Columns of calligraphy, coiling dragons, and a red sun over waves fill the background, with colors applied by hand over the black key blocks.
Look closer: Coiling dragons curl around the upper corners of the banner, almost hidden by the calligraphy and clouds.
