Black and white lithograph of a top-hatted man rowing a boat while a nervous companion clings to the stern, with a caption below.

The Novice Sailor, plate 19 from Les Canotiers Parisiens

A lithograph in black ink on tan paper shows a man in a top hat and dark coat rowing a small boat with a long oar, while a seated companion in a light suit sits in the stern clutching the gunwale. Caricature linework, hatched shading and a caption band beneath the image give the scene a satirical, comic tone.
