The Rescue of the Survivors of the Raft of the Medusa
A loose pen and brown ink sketch on tan paper shows a crowd of nude and partly clothed figures struggling in rough water beside a boat with a furled sail at left. Figures reach, lean and kneel in a tangle of arms and torsos, with a pale reclining form at lower left and an oar angled through the waves.
