Lithograph of a plumed captain in a long coat leaning on a stone block, sword across his legs, looking off to one side.

The Thoughtful Captain

A mustached officer in a plumed hat and long coat leans against a stone block, one boot planted and a sword resting across his legs. His gaze turns aside and his posture is loose and relaxed. Fine hatching in pen-like strokes models the coat and the rough stone.

Look closer: A small stool or chair leg is visible under the figure's raised boot, sketched in faint lines.
