Lithograph of three profile heads labeled as phrenological studies, from an 1842 French journal plate, on aged paper.

Phrenological heads: intellectual disability, mental illness and P.F. Lacenaire, 1842

Three profile heads appear on a lithograph plate from the 1842 Journal des Artistes, labeled with captions beneath each figure. Fine hatched shading models the skulls and faces against a pale, foxed paper ground, with the brow and jaw lines emphasized. The right head is heavier and more deeply lined than the other two.
