Portrait of Timothy Shay Arthur, c. 1861

A seated elderly man with white hair and a white beard rests his chin on his hand in a carved, dark wooden armchair with a floral-patterned cushion. He wears a dark suit, a white shirt and a cravat, and gazes off to the side against a plain backdrop and a draped curtain. This albumen print is a small carte-de-visite format portrait.
