Vase

A glazed earthenware vase with a flared, ruffled mouth, two looping handles and a mottled brown and amber glaze pooling over the surface. A modeled relief of a bearded head with a crest-like mane and a clawed form sits on the rounded body, standing on a low foot. The pale background sets off the vessel's glossy, uneven finish.

Look closer: A small bird-like form with clawed feet is modeled low on the body, partly hidden by the glaze.
