Vestal Maiden Asleep in a Chair
A pen-and-ink drawing shows a young woman in loose classical drapery asleep in a tall carved chair, arms folded and head tilted against the chair back. A round tripod brazier stands at lower left, and a columned interior frames the figure beneath a partly legible inscription. Fine hatching gives the scene a quiet, drowsy air.
Look closer: A handwritten dedication in French runs along the bottom edge of the sheet.
