Western Larch (Larix occidentalis), watercolor by Mary Vaux Walcott
A branch of larch with fine, soft green needles in clusters and several small, scaled cones in green and rust-brown hangs diagonally across a pale cream background. Rendered in watercolor with careful botanical detail, the study shows the gray-brown twig, needle tufts and cones, with a faint artist's monogram in the lower right corner.
