An engraved figure of a bearded man in a laurel-like crown and draped cloak sits in a stone niche, raising a slender rod in one hand and holding a globe at his hip with the other. Dense parallel hatching models the muscular body and the folds of the cloth, and a monogram sits at lower left.

Look closer: A small monogram is signed in the lower left corner of the plate.
