Engraved vanitas allegory: nude figures with a skull, a raised bird and floating bubbles in a garden setting, signed J. de Groot, 1745.

Allegory of Transience (Vanitas) by Johannes de Groot

An engraving of a vanitas allegory set in a garden with foliage at left. A nude youth sits at lower left beside a skull, while a nude adult figure reclines at right holding a bird aloft above a seated woman, with bubbles drifting in the sky. Pale tonal shading gives the scene a soft, dreamlike quality.
