Color woodblock print of two figures embracing on a tatami floor beside a lattice window, with rooftops and lotus pads visible beyond the water.

The Evening Mistress at Ueno (Ueno no bansho), from the series "Eight Fashionable Views of Edo (Furyu Edo hakkei)"

Two figures are intimately entwined on a tatami floor in a room opening onto a window with a view of rooftops and a waterway filled with lotus pads. A poem cartouche sits above, and a lacquer box and tray lie at right. The color woodblock print uses flat areas of green, cream and red with fine patterned panels.
