Uma gravura colorida à mão mostra um pica-pau de asas douradas pousado em um galho nu, ao lado de bolotas e folhas de carvalho serrilhadas. A ave tem o dorso listrado de cinza, o peito salpicado de preto, uma mancha vermelha na nuca e um bico longo e curvo, com as penas amarelas das asas abertas.
